My very first portrait painting was a fashion portrait, long before I began painting musicians. Recently, I felt myself being pulled back toward that style. Hot in the City became my return to it—a girl with big dreams and the city in her sights. She doesn’t know exactly where those dreams will take her yet, but she can already see where she wants to go. There’s something about that confidence, ambition, and willingness to chase what’s ahead that I wanted to capture in this piece.
