Longing to Belong

$950.00

One-of-a-Kind Original Acrylic Painting on

Canvas

Deep turquoise, ocean blue, teal, and soft washes of white move through Longing to Belong, creating layers that feel both fluid and weathered. Drips, fractured lines, heavy texture, and translucent passages overlap across the canvas, giving the piece a sense of depth and constant movement. There are moments that resemble water, stone, shoreline, and reflections, but nothing is completely defined—allowing the viewer to find their own landscape within the abstraction. Framed in a sleek silver metal floating frame, the rich color and organic texture make this a striking statement piece.

For me, Longing to Belong is rooted in the feeling of being drawn toward somewhere that feels like home. I painted this while listening to Eddie Vedder’s Ukulele Songs, which inevitably brings Hawaii to mind for me. The blues and turquoise began to take on the feeling of ocean and island landscapes, while the layers became almost like fragments of memories—some clear, others blurred or just beneath the surface. The painting evolved instinctively, ultimately becoming about that pull we sometimes feel toward a place, a time, or even a version of ourselves we wish we could return to.
